| The multimedia network software product is designed for creating a network of multimedia terminals that can be used as:
- Internet-kiosk (for browsing Internet and sending email);
- For sending multimedia greeting cards including photos and small video clips by email and regular mail (except video clips);
- MSN instant messenger;
- To watch TV and video programmes.
Thus, the terminals can be used as a separate product as well as for presentations and advertising campaigns.
The platform used
For the terminal:
OS - Windows 2000 and above (XP, 2003).
Hardware:
The memory and speed requirements depend on the services used by the terminal.
To read the data from the cards, card readers connected through the keyboard, the serial port or the USB port.
When using coins, the equipment running on CCTALK protocol is employed.
For the server:
Any Java-compatible OS. MS SQL™ Server or Oracle™ can be used as the database.
The system’s main features are:
- The terminal’s module structure allows for fast and easy configuring of the terminal according to the customer’s needs, as well as expand the functionality on request.
- The services interface presentation can be
altered promptly according to the customer’s needs (including built-in logos, promotion pages, etc.)
- The terminal can function in the following
regimes:
| |
- Online – all the events are immediately sent from the terminal to the server, and the terminal waits for the events processing results from the server. |
 |
- Offline – the terminal works autonomously connecting to the server on schedule to obtain the updates and send the work statistics. |
| |
- Combined – the work regime (online/offline) is selected automatically depending on the connection quality/state and other parameters (e.g. depending on the service currently used). |
- The current states of each terminal in the
system as well as reports on their work are always available at the server.
- There is no need for physical access to the
terminal – its configuration and work parameters are set up remotely.
- The software at the terminal is updated remotely.
- The system can serve from 100 to several
thousand concurrent terminals depending on the server hardware and the terminals’ work regime (the online regime increases the server load).
The previous version of the multimedia network has been
industrially used since May 2004 and has proven an effective and reliable solution.
